Rotary Club of Fort Worth South recognized first responders at May 20th Meeting

 

On August 10th, 2024, the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 4200 block of Eastland Avenue with a reported victim trapped inside. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire and thick black smoke. Bystanders confirmed that there was an elderly and disabled woman in the bedroom of her home and could not get out. Firefighters from Engine 22 were familiar with the layout of the home and immediately made their way to the bedroom window. Engineer Adamcik climbed through the window and located the woman in the dense, dark smoke.

 

Engineer Adamcik was able to lift her off the bed, keeping her airway as low as possible to ensure minimal smoke inhalation. He slid her out through the window to the awaiting firefighters. He then continued to search the interior to ensure there was no one else inside.

 

The other crews performed life-saving measures on the victim, including using a CYANOKIT. Thankfully, firefighters were able to get the victim breathing on her own, and she was transferred to a local hospital in critical condition. She survived the ordeal all due to the quick actions of Engineer Adamcik and the crews supporting his rescue efforts.

 

Captain Trevor Poitevent, who was with Engineer Adamcik on that incident, stated, “Brad is the perfect example of a quality firefighter and an amazing person. He makes everyone around him better in all aspects of life. I was privileged to get to work with him.”

 

The Fort Worth Fire Department wants to thank the Rotary Fort Worth South for recognizing the first responders of this great city. We are incredibly proud of Engineer Adamcik as he is a testament to the mission of our Department as a whole. We would like to extend our congratulations to not only him, but his family as well, who make their own sacrifices so their husband/father can serve the City of Fort Worth.
